MES Auto transformers has only one winding. The transformer primary and secondary shared the common winding, voltage required is tapped out along the common winding. Therefore it reduce the size, weight and cost compared to an isolation transformer.An auto transformer are used when there is no required on electrical isolation between the primary power source and the secondary load. Its simply designed to step-down or step-up the voltage.
